Staying true to yourself
What if authenticity became the new beauty?
Sometimes the world expects you to be a certain way or show up in a certain way. Not only can it create pressure, but also fear. Suddenly, we fear not being liked, not being good enough, or not fitting in.
Perhaps it stems from our history as social beings. We all have a natural desire to belong.
But there's a difference between being part of a community and adapting yourself so much that you actually lose yourself in the process.
A lot of people say they feel they've lost their spark.
Maybe it's not so much the external spark, although that can easily reflect our internal state. Maybe it's the internal state itself.
Losing the spark may simply mean we've lost our playfulness, our creativity, our silliness—whatever it is that truly makes us who we are.
In a world that's full of masks and expectations, staying true to yourself can be one of the greatest gifts you give yourself.
Even if other people won't like this version of you, it's not about them.
It's about you.
How many people didn't follow their dreams because they didn't want to disappoint their parents?
How many people chose a partner or started a family because they didn't want to disappoint those around them, only to find themselves deeply unhappy years later?
How many people never truly showed up as themselves simply because they feared being judged by others?
It's not to say those are wrong choices.
But often our decisions are influenced by outside expectations more than we may realize.
It's hard to be different.
But if a choice feels right to you, or something doesn't align with your values, it may be worth having the courage to stay true to yourself.
What helps us reconnect with who we truly are?
It doesn't mean we have to change our whole life overnight.
But becoming aware of the moments in which you don't feel like your authentic self can already do more than you may think.
It's the little moments and small actions that shape our lives over time, not necessarily one big move.
And what's more beautiful than being yourself?
