Emotions are like waves in the sea

Mastering your emotions is like a surfer mastering the waves in the ocean

Dealing with strong emotions such as rage, anger, jealousy, hate or fear? Emotions are like waves in the sea. You can drown in them.
They can pull you down. They can overwhelm you. Just like when all is calm and a rough wave sweeps over, it won’t be the same.
So you gotta learn to embrace emotions. Face them. As uncomfortable as they might seem. And then there may come a time you decide you no longer want to swim there. And that’s the same with your life. There comes a moment you may decide you no longer want to feel that way.
And just like you need to change a different bay, you got to change your thoughts, beliefs and concepts that made you feel that way.
Because it’s your choice. You always have the choice to swim wherever. In your life you have the choice.
If you are constantly angry, sad, disappointed, you can decide to change it. Change your thoughts, change your actions.
But that’s what feels uncomfortable. Change is always uncomfortable.
It’s much easier to blame the waves then take responsibility for how you react.
Change starts within. You can sit by the ocean and complain how high the tides are. Or you can change the setting.
That’s my advice. Don’t wait for an external event to get better. Don’t wait for the perfect moment (to feel ready), it may never come.
Change the setting. Switch direction. If one does not turn out the way you wish, there is another way waiting for you. Don’t push through for the sake of it.
But in case you’re encountering a big wave don’t condemn it.
Because everything you experience teaches you something. It may teach you more resilience. Be open and ask yourself what it’s teaching you.
Sometimes the wave aka emotion is so rough, you may get hurt.
Yes, it can be hurtful. It can feel frustrating. It can feel awful. Yet, don’t dwell in pain or regret for too long.
Remember, you cannot change what happened but you can always learn from the experiences. The learning lesson turns into wisdom.
Wisdom allows you to take different decisions next time.
Don’t make the mistake again and again. Don’t repeat old things again and again, not that there are real mistakes anyway, but once you get swapped away by a wave and you hit a rock, you wouldn’t do or bathe there again, would you?
If you got hurt once, don’t do exactly the same thing again.
And if there are no waves, appreciate it. Be grateful because nothing is for granted in life.
If you’re facing ups and downs frequently, then learn to ride the waves like a surfer, use the lows to pull yourself up. And have fun along the ride.
Lows may suck but remember this life is not forever. It’s not about achieving anything but enjoying the ride. Only when we experience the lows, we can appreciate the highs. In the end, its all just an experience.
Stop judging the waves into good or bad rather see it as one ocean with different shapes and forms that allow you to have different experiences.
And don’t judge other surfers because remember we are all in the same ocean.
See the world as if it was one just like the sea is one.
Some parts of the sea are darker, others lighter, some are rough, some are soft but it’s all one. In the world there’s different humans too but together we are one.
Imagine the small wave would start war against the big wave. It would be absolutely crazy.
Don’t start war or heavy fights against another for you’re only fighting against a part of yourself.
Just like there are small waves, big waves, foamy waves, there can be different forms of existence. That makes the sea diverse.
Don’t prove, impress or please another if you want to live in peace.
Would a big wave prove its worth to a small wave? I don’t think so. It explores its own capability and beauty. Allow yourself to be unique. Allow yourself to be you!
Don’t be fooled by time just because something seems like it’s 5 years ago. Time is relative. You may have changed and become a different version just like a big wave may turn into a calm wave but it’s still part of the big ocean. You are never separate and it’s still the ocean. Time is not moving but you’re moving through time.
Enjoy each moment as this life is not forever. Make the most out of it.
Explore new territory. Try new possibilities. Have the courage to chase your dreams and your deepest desires. For that’s your soul communicating with you trying to make new experiences together with you in a human form.
